Rowlett installs Dallas County’s first Safe Haven Baby Box at fire station

ROWLETT, Texas — The City of Rowlett has installed a Safe Haven Baby Box at Fire Station No. 1, becoming the first city in Dallas County to provide a safe, legal and anonymous option for parents surrendering a newborn in crisis.

The baby box is installed in the exterior wall of Rowlett Fire Station No. 1 at 3900 Miller Road. Under Texas Safe Haven laws, parents can anonymously surrender a newborn through the temperature-controlled box, which is monitored around the clock.

When the box is opened and a baby is placed inside, emergency personnel are immediately alerted so they can respond and provide care.
