DECATUR, GA — A 23-year-old pregnant mother was killed inside her DeKalb County home in a shooting that also claimed the life of her unborn child, according to authorities. Police say the woman was asleep when gunfire hit the residence on Peppertree Circle in Decatur on June 17, 2026.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, working with the U.S. Marshals Service, later arrested a suspect in connection with the case. Officials identified the victim as Shakiya Pridgen.
What Investigators Say
Investigators believe the shots were fired into the home from outside, according to the sheriff’s office. They said Pridgen was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital, where she and her unborn child were pronounced dead.
Authorities have not said whether anyone else was targeted. Police also said no one else was hurt in the shooting.
Arrest In Riverdale
