Portland Boys & Girls Club closure sparks outrage

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — For Alicia Davis, the planned closure of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metro’s Regence Club is more than the loss of an after-school program—it’s the loss of a nearby safe place for children.

Davis, a single mother who works long hours, said she had recently placed her daughter on the club’s waitlist and was stunned to learn the North Portland facility is scheduled to close Aug. 14.

“It was definitely news to me,” Davis said. “I had no idea that they were going to be closing.”…
