A horrific shooting incident at Apalachee High School on Sept. 4, 2024, left four dead and nine wounded. Colt Gray was a mere 14-year-old when he allegedly carried an assault weapon to the school and opened fire, resulting in one of the most chilling gun violence-related incidents in Georgia in recent years. Gray is facing 55 counts in all, which include four counts of murder and 25 counts of aggravated assault, per Court TV.
In May, Gray appeared at the Barrow County courthouse, and his defense team took the opportunity to move to change the trial location. The 16-year-old’s defense attorney, Charlton Allen, cited the heavy media presence in Barrow County to seek to move Gray’s trial to another location. Luckily for Gray, the prosecution did not object to Allen’s proposal, per a May 28 Court TV report.
In the latest development, Gray is now scheduled to stand trial in Columbia County, which is merely two hours away from the Appalachee High School where he allegedly wreaked havoc in September 2024. The same judge, namely Nicholas Primm, will preside over the trial, and the Barron County District Attorney’s Office will still prosecute the case. The jury, however, will be from Columbia County, as will be the court security, bailiffs, and such other officials, per the outlet.

The alleged shooter had a bit of a problematic history that should have never been ignored.
