Lower Paxton police caution residents amid spike in Facebook Marketplace scams

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — The Lower Paxton Bureau of Police is sending word out to its residents about an observed spike in reports of fraudulent activities on Facebook Marketplace.

Scammers are targeting sellers by asking about their listed items and claiming to make payments through peer-to-peer services like Venmo, CashApp, and PayPal, according to the police.

During the actual transactions, the police said scammers will try to deceive victims by telling them payments cannot be processed until they create a “business account.”…
