13-foot alligator confirmed as killer of Florida woman, FWC says

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed Thursday that a 13-foot alligator was responsible for a woman’s death in the Econlockhatchee River.

The 13-foot gator and another 12.5-foot gator were both captured and killed after being found near where the deadly June 28 attack happened. The FWC said recent lab results matched the victim’s DNA to the 13-foot alligator.

According to officials, Brittany Clark, 31, of Orlando, was attacked while swimming with her boyfriend and best friend in the Econlockhatchee River. The group had stopped for a swim while hiking in the Little Big Econ State Forest.

Authorities said the gator latched onto Clark while she was in the water, causing “serious injuries” to both of her arms. Her boyfriend called 911 and described the severity of the situation to dispatchers, saying he was “trying to get her from the alligator’s mouth.”…
