In the aftermath of heavy rains in San Patricio County in recent days, the City of Mathis recently declared a local emergency after tall grass gave rise to nuisances across the city.
City Manager Cedric Davis said in the aftermath of the heavy rains earlier this month, the city experienced an uptick of 5-7-foot weeds and grass across the city. As a result, Mayor Ciri Villarreal declared a local state of emergency under the Texas Health and Safety Code.
At some locations, residents reported of killing rattle and coral snakes, or huge rodents. That uptick, Davis said, led to Villarreal issuing the state of emergency to allow city crews to mow and clear out any instances of high grass or weeds in order to protect the city and its residents…
