Does Portland still have the ‘best Texas-style barbecue scene outside of Texas?’ You betcha

Can you have too much barbecue? This spring, I reviewed the new Oregon outpost of a Michelin-starred Texas barbecue joint; revisited Portland’s best new barbecue truck; and finally stated the obvious — that the Portland-area’s best barbecue spot is actually in Hood River.

And that’s just the barbecue places I wrote about.

Last month, after trying out a new bouldering gym in Ladd’s Addition, a hungry friend and I shared a tray at Lawless, the Kansas City-style barbecue setup at 1520 S.E. Seventh Ave. Walking back, we passed a sign advertising lamb barbacoa tacos from the traveling barbecue pop-up Briel’s at an empty lot near Southeast 11th Avenue and Clay Street.
