WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Police Department and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office each added new officers this week, with graduation ceremonies marking the completion of two separate law enforcement training programs.

Thirty-three new Wichita police officers will begin working this weekend after graduating from the police academy. A third of the new officers are from out of state; the remainder are from the Wichita area.
A department official said staffing levels remain a work in progress.
“With this class graduating and our next class starting on Monday, we’ll be sitting right around mid-20s when it comes to openings at the police officer rank,” WPD Capt. Aaron Moses said. “We have openings in other ranks across the department as well that will be filled by promotion.”…
