Gov. Stein announces $1B milestone in post-Helene water infrastructure funding

BURNSVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — State leaders traveled to Burnsville on Friday to highlight the major investments made to rebuild western North Carolina’s water systems in the nearly two years since Helene.

More than $1 billion has now been awarded to water infrastructure and resilience projects in the region since the storm, according to Gov. Josh Stein and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Secretary Reid Wilson.

Ninety-eight percent of all western North Carolina water systems damaged by Helene have since been restored, a press release from the governor’s office said…
