Mall stabbing victim speaks out for first time after religious attack

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC4) — Sohail, the victim of a vicious, religiously motivated attack at the Valley Fair Mall in West Valley City on Monday, is speaking publicly for the first time since the assault.

On July 13, Sohail was working the Maga Incorporated Diamonds kiosk at Valley Fair Mall when an individual approached him. The individual, identified as Peter Michael Larsen, 48, asked if Sohail was Muslim and, upon learning that he is, allegedly stabbed him over a dozen times.

Larsen told police he targeted Sohail due to his religion, and that he had intended to kill him.

Sohail was taken to the hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery. He faces a long recovery, in addition to health issues he was struggling with before the assault…
