Affordable apartments to open on Bainbridge Island

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND — The Ericksen Community, a permanently affordable 18-unit multifamily rental complex on Bainbridge Island, is complete after just over a year of construction. Comprised of 12 one-bedroom, one-bathroom units, with six three-bedroom, two-bathroom units, the building on the corner of Knechtel Way and Ericksen Avenue blends in with the surrounding neighborhood — a detail that was completely intentional.

The plot of land the complex stands on was purchased in 2019 by Housing Resources Bainbridge (HRB), a nonprofit that aims to keep community members on the island living comfortably and avoid unsustainable commutes. The original property owner sold the land to HRB for half its market value, a generous donation that kickstarted HRB’s first ground-up build since Ferncliff Village Phase 2 in 2016.
