MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Valley News Live) – A new study by researchers at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities finds if drivers comply with posted speed limits, the U.S. could save an average of $22 million, 6.7 million gallons of fuel, and 57,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide every day.
The paper was published in Communications Sustainability, a peer-reviewed journal.
What the research found
Researchers analyzed more than 120 million real-world vehicle trips across the United States, focusing on light-duty engine-powered vehicles, which account for 14.6% of total energy consumption.
