INDIANAPOLIS — David Chaney runs Malik’s Blankets for the Homeless, an effort his now-11-year-old godson, Malik, started at eight-years-old.
After the nonprofit recently bought a truck of its own, the group started distributing more than blankets and food, packing things like hygiene items at Brookside Community Church on Sunday.
“A washcloth, they’re gonna get roll-on anti-perspirant, they’re gonna get body wash and shampoo, they’re gonna get toothpaste and a toothbrush, and we roll it all up and we seal it with the Malik’s blankets for the Homeless sticker so they know that it came to them with love and compassion,” Chaney said of the kits. “We can just get in the truck, go on location. I mean if there was an emergency tomorrow and people needed us, we could be there.”…
