CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Wildfire smoke moved into eastern Iowa overnight and will lead to a smoky Sunday. Those sensitive to poor air quality, including children and the elderly, should avoid being outside if possible. You can see the latest air quality readings here.
Highs today will be in the mid to upper 80s. Tonight, temperatures will fall to the mid to upper 60s. The smoke will linger overnight but will be cleared out by tomorrow’s showers and storms.
Some of these storms could be strong to severe, which is why tomorrow is a First Alert Day.
There will be two opportunities for storms.
The first round will be a line that moves through Monday morning. This round could bring damaging winds and heavy rain. By about 10 AM, the rain and cloud cover will likely move out.
Temperatures will spike to the low 90s, with dew points in the mid 70s. This will allow the atmosphere to recover as a boundary moves through later in the day…
