Woman indicted after newborn found dead in a Gretna porta-potty

A woman has been indicted on a second-degree murder charge after authorities say she gave birth to a baby who was found dead inside a portable toilet in Gretna.

Police were called to a Waffle House on the West Bank Expressway shortly after 3 a.m. on March 26 after 37-year-old Lakesha Lemelle walked into the restaurant and told witnesses she had given birth nearby.

According to police, Lemelle directed officers to a portable toilet at a nearby construction site, where they found her newborn son inside the tank. The baby, later named Jeremiah by relatives, was pronounced dead…
