FLORIDA — The National Hurricane Center has increased the chance of development for Invest 91L to 80 percent, as the area of low pressure over the northeastern Gulf continues to become better defined. Shower and thunderstorm activity associated with the system is gradually increasing, with a tropical depression likely to form later today or Monday as it moves slowly northward or northwestward.
Interests along the northern Gulf coast from Florida through Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana are urged to monitor the system, as tropical storm watches or warnings could be required for portions of the area later today.
Tropical Depression Formation Likely This Weekend or Monday
Continued gradual development is expected for the low pressure system, with forecasters saying a tropical depression is likely to form later today or on Monday. An Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system later today to gather additional data.
Despite the increasing organization, 91L is not expected to become a strong tropical storm or hurricane, with the main concern centered on periods of heavy rain and a few waterspouts along the Gulf coast.
