Federal marshals are turning to the public as they search for 54-year-old Vang Her, a convicted felon who investigators say disappeared last summer after his release from prison. Authorities say Her was convicted in a violent 2001 home invasion in Lincoln County and served about 17 years before getting out on probation. He is believed to have ties to both Wisconsin and Minnesota, and investigators think he may have taken off for California.

According to FOX6 News Milwaukee, Her was part of a crew that tied up a family, including a young child, and stole thousands of dollars during that 2001 home invasion. The outlet reports he served 17 years in prison, was released with 17 years of probation, then moved to the Minneapolis area in 2022 to be with family. In July 2025, investigators say, he “went on the run,” and a marshal on the case described him as “very unpredictable.”
FOX6 adds that investigators believe Her may now be in California. They say he uses the nicknames Chico, JJ and “Little One,” and that his listed description is 5 feet 1 inch tall and about 140 pounds.
