SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Edited News Release/KY3) — The city of Springfield has been awarded a $3,583,382 Brownfields Cleanup Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to remediate contaminated properties in downtown Springfield and support the next phase of the Renew Jordan Creek project.
The grant will fund environmental cleanup at 404 and 428 N. Jefferson Ave., totaling 3.83 acres of vacant, underutilized former commercial and heavy industrial property near Jordan Creek. City officials said the sites contain hazardous soil contamination and include a historic structure that will require asbestos and lead-based paint abatement.
