Upgrades to Erie Art Museum stairs complete

Construction on the stairs of the historic Customs House in downtown Erie is finally complete.

Better known as the Erie Art Museum, the outside of the building went through a $350,000 renovation as part of a multi-phase historic preservation project.

Phase one corrected the water infiltration that has damaged and cracked the mortar of the steps. Museum leaders said soon the iconic Internal Vigilance statue will return with a re-dedication.

“i think people haven’t been sure whether or not to come back because there has been other construction on the street too, but now that has kind of been cleared away and the city finished the sidewalk too people are kind of returning back and kind of just hanging out reading books that sort of thing so we’re really excited to think about this space as an new programming space to,” said Laura Domencic, the executive director of the Erie Art Museum…
