Owner of warehouse business in Durham and Burlington charged with embezzlement for allegedly failing to pay state sales taxes

The owner of a construction/material warehouse with locations in Burlington and Durham has been arrested on four counts of embezzlement for allegedly failing to pay state sales taxes for six years.

The North Carolina Department of Revenue announced Monday that Ubaldo Torres Rodriguez, 56, Hispanic, male, was arrested Monday on four counts of embezzlement of state property for allegedly failing to pay state sales taxes for two construction/material warehouse companies.

Rodriguez has been charged with embezzlement for allegedly failing to pay $151,108.23 in state sales taxes for Sun HS Warehouse of Burlington, LLC, which has its registered office at 1524 North Church Street, from February 1, 2018 to July 31, 2024. He is also charged with embezzlement for allegedly failing to pay $273,978.72 in sales taxes for Sun HS Warehouse Group, LLC at 607 Ellis Road in Durham from January 1, 2016 to October 31, 2017, as well as from June 1, 2018 to November 30, 2024, the N.C.
