Former hotel maintenance worker used master key to steal firearms, prosecutors say

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A 46-year-old man with multiple prior convictions was sentenced to over a decade in prison after a jury found him guilty of first-degree burglary, the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office announced Monday.

A Charleston County jury convicted Dexter Travis Martin following a four-day trial last week. Circuit Judge Dale E. Van Slambrook sentenced Martin to the mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison.

Prosecutors said the burglary occurred during the early morning hours of March 7, 2022, when Martin entered a hotel room and stole firearms from a guest staying there for a work assignment…
