MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Montgomery city leaders postponed a vote on Mayor Steven Reed’s $375 million “Momentum 2040” bond after residents split over prioritizing big development vs. public safety, sanitation, and infrastructure.
The city council carried over all three agenda items, so Reed still lacks authorization to pursue the bonds. Members want more detail on impacts to police/public safety and basic services.
Proposed spending includes:
- $200 million convention center expansion;
- $45 million sports complex/amphitheater;
- $50 million facility/service enhancements;
- $40 million neighborhoods;
- $15 million housing infrastructure;
- Up to $25 million insurance (Reed: a “credit card limit” maximum).
