Fitchburg police explore new technology amid ongoing issues

FITCHBURG, Wis. — After reducing the number of incidents its officers would respond to due to funding constraints, the Fitchburg Police Department has begun exploring new technology.

Captain Drew McCarthy highlighted two facts as he explained the department’s proposal: FBI data from 2024 showed Fitchburg has the highest violent crime rate per capita in the Dane County area. The department doesn’t have enough resources to fight that, with the lowest officer to resident ratio for a city of its size in the state.
