VERMILION PARISH, La. (KLFY) — A Vermilion Parish family says they are finally expected to receive the cremated remains of their loved one after weeks of waiting and what they describe as little communication from a New Orleans funeral home.
Stephen Menard filed a complaint with the Louisiana State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors against New Orleans Funeral and Cremation Service, alleging delays and a lack of communication while trying to recover the ashes of his granddaughter, Chantelle Romero.
According to Menard, Romero suffered a drug overdose in the New Orleans area in October 2023 and never regained consciousness. After her death, her body was transferred to the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office before the family arranged for cremation through New Orleans Funeral and Cremation Service…
