ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities are urging beachgoers to exercise extreme caution along the South Carolina coast as the risk of rip currents remains moderate.
The warning comes after a 41-year-old man from Ohio died Tuesday while attempting to save a child from the surf at Isle of Palms Beach.
Emergency responders were called just before 2 p.m. after the man entered the water to rescue a struggling child. According to Sgt. Matt Storen of the Isle of Palms Police Department, witnesses reported that both the child and another family member were having difficulty in the water.
