FAYETTEVILLE, NC — Megan Scott, the Fayetteville mother accused in a high-speed crash that killed her three sons, was back in court Monday on a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge tied to the same day. The court appearance came as investigators continued to connect the earlier domestic-dispute call to the fatal wreck.
What Police Say
According to an affidavit, the June 3 events began with an argument between Scott and her boyfriend, Demetrius Williams. Williams told authorities the dispute turned physical when Scott bit him on the arm, then tried to hit him with a car and left the scene.
Officers later responded to a hit-and-run report on Cedar Creek Road. When Fayetteville police tried to serve Scott with a warrant tied to the domestic dispute, authorities say she sped away and struck two officers.
The Deadly Crash
North Carolina Highway Patrol said Scott was driving 111 mph before she crashed into a tree. Police said none of the three children in the vehicle were in car seats or wearing seat belts.
Two of the boys were thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. The third was flown to UNC Hospital and later died.
