7News gets an inside look at construction of a new railroad bridge over the Potomac

WASHINGTON (7News) — 7News got an inside look Wednesday at a massive construction project officials say will drastically improve Amtrak and commuter rail service between Virginia and DC.

Officials say the “Long Bridge Project” is still on schedule to finish in 2030, and 7News saw crews working in several areas of Southwest Washington Wednesday. And though the construction of a new railroad bridge across the Potomac River has gotten the most attention, work is also going on between the L’Enfant train station and the Potomac. In all, the project consists of five new railroad bridges and two new pedestrian bridges.

Near the Salamander Hotel, crews are working on a temporary bridge that will go across the Washington Channel while a new bridge is built, and in East Potomac Park, crews are working to prepare for new tracks…
