HONOLULU (Island News) — It’s been an unresolved issue for decades — when farm animals get loose and cause a public nuisance, who do you call?
“When we had the cattle on the loose it was running through the freeway, I mean the highway area of Farrington Highway, it wasn’t necessarily something that anybody in the public should be dealing with,” said Honolulu City Councilmember Andria Tupola, who spearheaded a new law that went into effect in July to address feral farm animals.
But now the city’s Department of Customer Services is looking for a contractor to capture stray farm animals like horses, cows, goats and and sheep that sometimes end up on roadways and residential neighborhoods…
