It is a very good thing that the bogus criminal indictment of Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill has been dropped, but that doesn’t excuse one of the hardball tactics her defense lawyers employed in the meantime.
Defense attorneys Blake Arcuri and Laura Cannizzaro Rodrigue demanded that special prosecutor Laurie White transmit to the grand jurors a letter ordering them to preserve all their communications related to the case, while warning “independent tort liability for spoliation, and referral for criminal prosecution.” (“Spoliation” is a legal term for failing to preserve evidence.)
White refused to transmit the letters, arguing that they targeted grand jurors in a stunning and, quite arguably, abusive and legally improper manner…
