NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The city of New Orleans has secured bond funding to repair the Broad Street on-ramp from Earhart, a structure that has been closed for more than a year following the discovery of structural issues with its supports.
A spokesperson for Mayor Moreno said the city received the bond money last month. Engineers are now working to design a fix for the 60-year-old ramp. The city anticipates repairs will cost $3.5 million, with construction expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2027.
Ramp closed after routine inspection flagged structural problems
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development ordered the emergency closure in late 2024 after a routine inspection revealed structural issues with the ramp supports. While the state is responsible for inspecting the structure, the City of New Orleans owns the ramp and bears responsibility for repairs and funding.
“Each bridge is inspected at least once every two years,” said Daniel Gitlin, public information officer for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. “Older structures, more than that as they age.”…
