DALLAS Ore. (KPTV) – A 52-year-old former Oregon prison guard was sentenced to life in prison on Friday for the 2024 murder of his brother, according to the Polk County District Attorney’s Office.
On June 26, Alonzo Rowell of Dallas was convicted of second-degree murder by a Polk County jury for the Nov. 9, 2024, death of his brother, 54-year-old Tony Miller, also of Dallas.
According to court records, Rowell shot and killed Miller outside his brother’s home. Then, Rowell drove to his former workplace, the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, where he “engaged in a short standoff” with Salem police and other officers, the DA’s office said.
