HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Grand Jury indictment is sending shockwaves far beyond the courtroom.
Legal analyst Alex Silvert said today’s indictments indicate the Grand Jury found sufficient evidence that several people were involved in a bribery scheme, and while an indictment is not a conviction, the charges are serious.

“The bribery charges are Felony B under Hawaii law. That’s up punishable by up to 10 years in jail. There are campaign finance violations that are felony C’s that are up to five years in prison. So altogether, these are very serious charges,” said Silvert.
Silvert said the case now enters what could be a lengthy pretrial process. One defendant – Tobi Solidum – must first be extradited from the Philippines and prosecutors and defense attorneys will likely begin discussing possible plea agreements before any trial begins…
