ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Maryland Freedom Caucus this week criticized Gov. Wes Moore’s administration following a state audit that revealed millions of dollars in federal penalties and systemic oversight failures within the Department of Human Services.
The July 15 report from the state Office of Legislative Audits examined the Family Investment Administration, which manages nearly $1.9 billion in public assistance benefits. Auditors found that the agency repeatedly issued payments to ineligible individuals, including prison inmates and a millionaire lottery winner, while incurring $28 million in federal sanctions due to high error rates in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
