Tiger Woods Raises Concern with First Public Appearance Since Crash and Rehab
Tiger Woods has stirred concern among golf enthusiasts following his recent return to the public eye after a challenging few months marked by legal troubles and rehabilitation.
The 15-time major champion had maintained a very low profile since his serious rollover accident in March. The crash led to charges including two misdemeanor counts of DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, after police discovered two opioid tablets in his possession. Following the incident, Woods spent time in rehab in Switzerland and had not been seen publicly since coming back to the U.S. until Tuesday evening.
Woods appeared in a pre-recorded video message honoring former pro Notah Begay III, recipient of the Payne Stewart Award. The clip aired on Golf Channel and quickly spread across social media platforms, surprising many fans who had not seen the golf legend in several months.
Reactions to Woods’ appearance were mixed. Some viewers expressed worry over his physical condition, with comments such as “Tiger looks a shell of his former self,” and “He looks unrecognizable.” Others noted signs of sobriety but observed that he appeared aged beyond his years.
Conversely, many urged compassion and understanding, reminding fans that Woods is confronting struggles much like anyone else. Since then, he has undergone surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon, along with a seventh back procedure.
Recently, Woods ended a month-long social media silence by commenting on the PGA Tour’s changes to the season-ending schedule. In a post on X, he endorsed the updates, stating, “The conclusion of the season should be worthy of the journey it takes to get there… Excited to usher in a new era of match play on the PGA Tour.”
