PORTLAND, Ore. – New strides are being made in brain tumor research at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). For the first time in Oregon, brain tumor patients are living with an implant that delivers radiation immediately after surgery.
GammaTile is a one-inch radioactive square tile that a surgeon places against the brain after a tumor is removed. It begins delivering radiation for about 3-4 weeks before it dissolves, effectively removing the need for external rounds of radiation after surgery.
