ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — It’s been one year since a 19-year-old was hit and killed while riding her bike home in Albuquerque. In the midst of the grief, her mother has spent the last year fighting for change in the city.

Last July, Kayla Vanlandingham was biking on a path along the Hahn Arroyo, as she had many times before. She crossed at Carlisle on her way home, when she was struck by a car and died.
Now one year later, that spot is a heartbreaking reminder for Kayla’s family.
“It’s tough coming here and you can hear and see the drivers just in the background and there’s little thought to just getting from point A to point B and I think that’s what I sit with a lot,” said Melinda Montoya, Kayla’s mom…
