SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Thomas Denny Sanford, South Dakota’s best known billionaire, died Saturday, July 18, at the age of 90.

Sanford was a self-made billionaire who got rich in the banking and credit card industry. Years ago, he took a pledge to quote “die broke.” Over the years, his gifts included nearly $2 billion to the Sioux Falls-based health system bearing his name.
