Mamdani Orders Safety Overhaul Of NYC Fleet, 4,000 City Trucks To Get Pedestrian Warning Systems

New York City is moving to make thousands of municipal vehicles safer for pedestrians and cyclists, with new technology designed to warn people about turning trucks and prevent city drivers from dangerously speeding.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani signed Executive Order 19 on July 23, directing the Department of Citywide Administrative Services to retrofit approximately 4,000 non-emergency municipal trucks with audible pedestrian alerts by June 2029.
