Confirmed Tornado Strikes Appleton, Wisconsin, Causing Widespread Damage
APPLETON, Wisconsin – A confirmed tornado tore through the Appleton area on Monday afternoon, unleashing heavy rain, strong winds, and large hail across multiple communities. The storm touched down around 12:15 p.m. CDT, moving through Appleton and Menasha, prompting a Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) warning from the National Weather Service due to the severe threat to life and property.
Local authorities reported numerous downed power lines, fallen trees, and widespread damage to vehicles and buildings, including roofs torn off and debris scattered throughout the area. The Appleton Police Department has advised residents to avoid the affected zones as many roads remain blocked and several traffic signals are nonfunctional, causing significant delays.
Power outages have impacted more than 81,000 customers statewide as the storm system continues to move across Wisconsin. Governor Tony Evers has been briefed on the situation and is closely monitoring developments.
