Mother Nature reminded everyone in Flowery Branch, Georgia, this week that pavement is not invincible. On July 24, severe storms rolled through Hall County and left behind flooding, downed trees, and one seriously unhappy stretch of asphalt on Falcon Crest Drive. What started as a heavy rain event turned into a full-blown road collapse, cutting off an entire neighborhood from the outside world.
Resident Connor Stine happened to be heading out for work when the situation went from “rainy morning” to “nobody is going anywhere.” He was driving down the hill toward the damaged section when two neighbors flagged him down just in time, stopping him before his car joined the road in its new life as a ditch feature. Stine pulled over, got out, and started filming, footage that ended up showing just how quickly solid ground can turn into a hazard zone.
Stine told Storyful he filmed the clip mostly to explain to his boss why he wasn’t making it into work that day, though he also sent it to his mom to help get the word out to family and neighbors.
