KC woman sentenced to 12 years after fatal shooting tied to repossessed vehicle

A Jackson County judge on Friday sentenced a 25-year-old Kansas City woman to prison in the 2024 shooting death of a man outside his auto sales business, according to court documents.

Circuit Court Judge Patrick C. Edwards sentenced Kandi J. Galaviz to 12 years in prison for the fatal shooting of Waleed Marwan Shaban, 34.

Galaviz, who was initially charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action, pleaded guilty in May to voluntary manslaughter. As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dismissed the armed criminal action charge, according to court documents…
