Swastika graffiti painted on NCAR water tower in Boulder

Several swastikas that were painted on the National Center for Atmospheric Research’s water tower over the weekend have since been painted over, thanks to community members who promptly responded to the vandalism.

Boulder residents and members of the community saw the graffiti on the water tower, located just west of the NCAR Mesa Laboratory. The water tower is along the NCAR trail, making it easily visible to hikers. People who saw the graffiti immediately responded by bringing up paint and the necessary tools to cover it up. People posted the before and after photos of the water tower on Reddit.

“We are grateful to members of the community who promptly responded by painting over the hate symbols,” NCAR Media Relations Manager David Hosansky wrote in an email to the Daily Camera. “We have discussed this distressing situation with (law enforcement) and Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks, and have also notified the FBI since this type of vandalism can comprise a federal crime.”…
