PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A campaign is underway in the Parkrose Neighborhood in Northeast Portland to launch a new grocery store at the vacant building of a former Grocery Outlet.
Don McKeever, the former owner of the Grocery Outlet, is behind this new store called Parkrose Grocery. He is asking the community’s help with a fundraiser to help cover costs like a new point-of-sale system and other early expenses.
With the backing of Historic Parkrose, a business development non-profit organization, McKeever hopes to raise $30,000 by the end of September from community donations. If all goes according to plan, the doors will open on the new store, located on Northeast Sandy Boulevard off of Northeast 8th Avenue, in November.
The plan also has the support of Portland City Council President Jamie Dunphy, who believes the new store will be key in preventing parts of East Portland from becoming a food desert…
