Thunderstorms with nickel-sized hail in Rensselaer and Washington counties Tuesday

A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Tuesday at 12:53 p.m. for strong thunderstorms until 1:15 p.m. for Rensselaer and Washington counties.

The storms are packing wind gusts of up to 40 mph and nickel-sized hail (0.88 inches).

“At 12:52 p.m., Doppler radar tracked strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Fort Edward to Cambridge to near Hoosick Falls. Movement was northeast at 35 mph,” says the weather service. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.”…
