NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — While eating out and exploring the food scene in New York City is quite the adventure, not every establishment may be the best dining option.

Of the hundreds of restaurants across the five boroughs, a small handful may have unsanitary or unsafe conditions for diners.

To ensure that restaurants comply with food safety rules, the NYC Health Department conducts unannounced inspections at least once a year. Grades are typically assigned after inspection, but restaurants with repeated violations may face closure.
