Birchwood landfill aims to stretch capacity up to 52 more years, expand services

HARRISON, Tenn. — The City of Chattanooga is working on a new plan to offset landfill capacity concerns over the next few decades.

On Tuesday city council members toured the Birchwood landfill, where officials hope to expand services to residents in just over a year.

Right now sanitation leaders say they are accepting commercial trash from businesses. That includes contrition materials and bulky items.
