Mosquito-control spraying to take place over parts of Modesto on Thursday night

The East Side Mosquito Abatement District will conduct aerial mosquito spraying over about 9,646 acres of central, north and northeast Modesto between 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

This will be the second control application of July. The goal of these aerial applications is to reduce the number of mosquitoes and limit the risk of local transmission of mosquito-borne viruses, like the West Nile virus.

The abatement district reported that additional mosquito samples collected in the targeted areas tested positive for West Nile virus. So far, no human cases of the virus have been reported in the area this year…
