The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement found compliance issues at the Gus George Law Enforcement Academy with student attendance records, required paperwork, and internal checks to ensure the academy was meeting the state’s training requirements.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the county’s police training academy over several compliance issues, officials announced Monday, delaying the graduation of the latest police cadet class.
After an audit by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE), inspectors found issues with required recordkeeping and procedural hiccups at the Gus George Law Enforcement Academy. TCOLE is responsible for licensing and certifying over 100,000 peace officers, county jailers and school marshals throughout the state.
“The TCOLE audit identified procedural deficiencies involving accounting of students’ attendance, the proper completion and use of standardized forms, and adequate quality assurance measures to ensure academic practices consistently complied with TCOLE’s rules and standards,” Sheriff Eric Fagan said during a press conference on Monday…
