SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Local Postal workers held a demonstration during a National Day of Action calling for increased protections for the United States Postal Service.
The American Postal Workers Union (APWU) called for a Protect Our Public Post Office National Day of Action to be held on July 28. In the call to action, APWU President Jonathan Smith and others argued that the Postal Service has faced financial challenges and attacks despite the essential services it provides across the country.
APWU stated, “We all deserve reliable, affordable mail services; safe and secure elections provided by Vote-by-Mail; common-sense solutions to postal finances; and a postal leadership that supports this vision.”
APWU Salt Lake City Area Local 6 was one of the many groups across the United States to hold a demonstration. Russ Franklin, the local group’s president, explained, “We are here to raise public awareness of our post office to the public. It’s the public’s post office.”…
